By Robert Hurwitt There's a new wrinkle in the casting of the American Conservatory Theater's presentation of Jane Anderson's "The Quality of Life," a co-production with Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse and Jonathan Reinis Productions. Instead of three of the four actors from the award-winning L.A. production, ACT is getting more like 2 1/2. Three-time Emmy winner ("Roseanne") and Steppenwolf Theatre veteran Laurie Metcalf of the Geffen cast will share her lead role with former "Nash Bridges" regular and Broadway trouper Caroline Lagerfelt. Steven Culp (of ACT's "Angels in America" and "Blackbird") will round out the ensemble with stage and screen stars Dennis Boutsikaris (Broadway, "Law & Order") and JoBeth Williams ("Poltergeist," "The Big Chill") of the Geffen cast. The story concerns two couples dealing with issues in the wake of the 1995 Oakland hills fire. "Quality" opens Oct. 29 with Metcalf; the Lagerfelt cast opens a week later, Nov. 5.
