Dana Delany, Steven Culp, Linda Gehringer, Rebecca Mozo and one actor to be announced will star in the South Coast Repertory world-premiere production of The Parisian Woman by Beau Willimon, author of Farragut North and adapter of the American version of TV's "House of Cards."
Tony Award nominee Pam MacKinnon (Broadway's Clybourne Park, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) will direct the Costa Mesa, CA, staging. Willimon returns to a favorite setting — Washington, DC. The comedy-drama runs April 14-May 4 on SCR's Julianne Argyros Stage.
Set in the Capitol Hill section of Washington, DC, "where powerful friends are the only kind worth having," according to SCR, "this provocative comedy about bad conduct in high places puts lust in bed with ambition. At the center is Chloe [Delany, of TV's 'China Beach' and 'Body of Proof'], an über-operator armed with charm, wit and sensuality. She uses all the arrows in her quiver to help her husband nab an important government post. How far will this unorthodox couple go to climb up the political ladder? Willimon's inspiration for the play came from Henri Becque's La Parisienne." The play was commissioned by the Flea Theater in New York City.
Willimon is creator and co-executive producer of Netflix's original series "House of Cards," about power, sex, ambition and corruption in Washington, DC. He is a playwright, screenwriter and producer. His play Farragut North became the basis for the film "Ides of March," which he co-wrote with George Clooney and Grant Heslov. The film earned Willimon Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay.
His other plays include Lower Ninth (Flea Theater, 2008; United Kingdom premiere, Donmar Warehouse, 2010), and Spirit Control (Manhattan Theatre Club, 2010). Willimon is a recipient of the Lila Acheson Wallace Juilliard Playwriting Fellowship, named 2008 Playwright-in-Residence at the Donmar Warehouse, and he is a two-time winner of the Lincoln Center Le Comte du Nouy Award.
