Media quotes about Steven Culp in "The Quality of Life"

Steven Culp (Bill) – "Quite simply, masterful!" ~ Beyond Chron

"Steven Culp has the hardest job of the four, because Bill could be such a stereotype. Culp makes him human." ~ San Francisco Chronicle

"Culp has the toughest role as the righteous, rather narrow-minded Bill, who foists his god on anyone he feels might be on the wrong path, which, of course, Neil and Jeannette are. But rather than come off as a brain dead stiff who spouts the God line, Culp's Bill is clearly guided in his spiritual rigor by the loss of his child and a grief so debilitating he likely couldn't move without the lifeline of faith." ~ The Examiner

"Culp and Metcalf have done the same thing, moving miles past the traditional Midwest mores to create genuine, believable characters — your blood pressure rises just watching how uncomfortable Bill is in his body." ~ Contra Costa Times

"Culp is perhaps the only actor who faced a significant challenge with his role, given that Bill is a creep and something of a cliché. However, Culp offers us moments of tight-lipped vulnerability throughout that serve to soften Bill and make him much more tenable." ~ SF Station

"Steven Culp as Bill, the father who has turned to intolerant, dogmatic born-again Christianity to deal with his grief, has some astonishing moments of self-centered insensitivity. But the character stays real, not turning into a caricature." ~ The Examiner

"Steven Culp performs a much understated and conservative Bill, a character perfectly antithetical to Jeanette. With a character so strongly Christian and aggressive in his beliefs, Culp could easily make Bill into the villain of the piece, but he shows professional restraint in playing his part. To a Northern Californian crowd, Bill is the guy who judges Jeanette's wine consumption, pooh-poohs the quinoa and criticizes Neil's use of marijuana as pain treatment. But for Culp, Bill is a man with strong convictions and, misguided or not, genuinely wants to help Neil and Jeanette and advise them to the right path. In his last scene, Culp finally shows the vulnerability lying beneath Bill's surface and proves that even the rather rough and brash Bill suffers too." ~ The Daily Californian
